MAC 130 short duo fibre brush, review

A short, round, flat-topped brush ideal for the smooth, easy application of foundations, creams, emulsions, and select powder products. Features a blend of natural bristles and synthetic fibres.

After using 187 brush and liked it so so much i wanted something that’s more precise. I know that they have a smaller version of the 187 (which is the MAC 188 brush) but i felt that i needed the bristles to be shorter so that i can stipple it on tighter on to the skin. I guess MAC must have thought about that too cause they made one with shorter bristle ;P This was exactly what i wanted. I was so happy when i saw it on their website.

Although the material and texture is the same as the 187 brush but you can’t use the 187 to pack on smaller areas. The 187 brush is too sparse. In fact i wished they have a bigger version of the 130. The shorter bristle is definitely better to pack on foundation, blush, concealer, bronzer, etc.

I really like it because the shorter bristle can make stippling on easier and your make up stick to the skin tighter (if you know what i mean) Although the 187 is great but i find that the bristle is a little too long. I prefer something that’s more dense so that i can really pack on the foundation nicely. That’s because i feel it would do wonders when i do bridal make up where by i need to pack on full coverage foundation on my clients and it would sit nicely on the skin looking flawless and lasting :)

Having said that doesn’t mean i don’t like like the 187 it’s still a great brush. It is great for normal application cause it’s light and it’s gives a flawless finished. I know there are other brands out there that has the shorter bristle dense foundation brush i just need to know where to find it :P In Malaysia there’s not much choice people here are not willing to pay so much for a make up brush so not a lot of brands are available here.

I love to use the 130 to pack on concealer and blush. It’s perfect for those small areas and it’s precise, and it’s great for contouring too. Just like the 187 it can be use with cream, liquid and powder formula. So for me this is a must have brush in my book. The downside is that it is a little pricey. I forgot how much it was but it was around Rm 120+ but less than Rm 150. I don’t really own a lot of brushes but i choose what’s most practical for me and i always prefer quality.

If you haven’t notice i prefer to stipple on my make up then just brushing it on because i feel the application is more natural, better control and a flawless finished. It sits better onto the skin and minimizes the chance of it being streaky and not enough blending. Before purchasing any brush think about what you need it for and what type you prefer before making the decision happy shopping :)

Tokidoki cute brush set & bronzer, review

There are a whole line of Tokidoki make up and brushes at Sephora.

Pittura brush set

Aren’t they cute? You can find this at Sephora. They are so cute i just gotta get my hands on them. Didn’t know how good or bad the brushes will be but it was just too cute that i gotta just have it. Lucky for me hubby was at Toronto and got it for me.

The set contains:

- Mozzarella Eyeshadow Brush
- Adios Amigos Crease Brush
- Donutella Angled Eyeliner Brush

I’m not a collector but these character are just too cute. And now they are in make up? What a great way to spice things up. I guess girls are just a sucker when it comes to cute things.

Make up  + cute characters = great stuff!

They did thought about the whole idea before coming out with it. All the brushes are useful ones. All 3 brushes are the most common brushes that everyone would need and use. To my surprise that the brushes are so so soft and nice to use. Yes you can actually use them. They don’t just look nice and cute but good to use as well. My favorite is the crease brush, i use it as a blending brush as well. It’s not too fluffy and great for the crease area (and i have a small crease, it even worked well on me) Shadow brush is pretty good too. The size is just right to pad the right amount of shadow at 1 sweep on the go. As for the eye liner brush, just like any normal angle eye liner brush, works well of course. No regrets for this purchase. I was expecting something cute but with no quality, boy! was i wrong :)

I also got the bronzer in Royal Pride. It comes in 2 colors. I got the lighter one. The other one is darker which is a medium tone. It has shimmer in it. It all depends on how you plan to use it. I’ve never used any bronzer and thought i’m going to give it a try. Read some reviews and it was pretty good so decided to give it a go. OK it’s just another excuse to get another Tokidoki item :P

You can apply this all over the face to give it a glow or just at the hollow of the cheeks for some light contouring. I used it as a contour but i think the color is too light for me as a contour color. I think it’s better all over the face as a glow (since it has shimmer in it) The shimmer is not too sparkly it’s very fine to some extend you can hardly see it.

The quality of the Tokidoki range is pretty good (it is by Sephora) Not just a cute character but the stuff really works well. There are whole range of make up, from eye shadows, lipgloss, eye liner, blushes, mascara, make up bags etc. I might pick up another item can’t decide yet :P The make up bags are really cute too :P Will do more reviews if i’ve purchase any new things.

Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol II, review

I’ve been eyeing on this brand for quite awhile. Unfortunately it’s unavailable in Malaysia. I finally got my hands on it on my trip to Paris. Saw a Sephora and i was in beauty heaven. They have all branded make up and the set up is like any drug store style. You can try on the tester and browse at your on time. No awkward sales girl around :)

16 Shadow colors with 1 mini primer potion and 1 black and 1 brown eyeliner pencil. It’s a good start off kit if you have not tried it before.

Must have primer potion. Won’t make your eye shadow crease. Especially for us here, in such hot weather. Eye shadow tend to crease easily or when you use a cream eye shadow it creases as well. It’s a good base to have on the lid before applying eye shadow. It will intensified the colors and maintain it’s true color. A lot of youtubers are raving about it. I have to test it out and see for myself. The result is great! I was using Mac’s prep + prime for the lids and i don’t like it at all. For me it still creases so no point. I bought a full size as well and i’m lo’vin it. Now i’m scared to finish the bottle, sigh…

24/7 Glide on pencil in Zero (black) and Bourbon (brown)

It’s a creamy texture and you can blend it out. I didn’t know how to use it at first cause it was too creamy for me. I have small eye space so it tend to smudge on my crease. After experimenting, now i’m lo’vin it. For those who have small lid /crease don’t apply all the way in. Just outer part of your eye then smudge it out. Give a nice soft effect rather than a harsh liner. Good eyeliner for 2 ways of using it.

I personally love all the colors. It is very wearable and it’s a great mix and match. From warm browns to cool pinks and purples. There are 2 types of highlight color. With shimmer to add that extra touch or just a matt finish. You can basically match pick any 2 or 3 colors and it’s a great tone. I wear a lot of twice baked, ecstasy, ac/dc, sellout (great highlighter). For that extra color, love jinx, flipside and homegrown. For dark tone to add definition, mushroom, misdemenor, gunmetal, perversion,ac/dc are great. It gives a very soft tone. High quality shadows, they are very pigmented. Can be worn wet to build up more intensity. For brighter effect, wet your brush a little and the color become more vibrant.

This is my first purchase of Urban Decay, loved it and i’m hooked on this edgy brand. Can’t wait to get my hands on the Naked Palette. It’s all sold out on Amazon.com sigh…

My make up addiction

Besides fashion i’ve always had a flare with make up. I guess it is in us all girls just like beauty stuff. I came across this website one day and was so inspired by it. Each month they will have a make up challenge and something will be the inspiration. The challenge that i did is “inspiration by soda can”  I did Mountain Dew.

Thank you Make Up Geek your an inspiration to a lot of people.

Review: Bobbi Brown cleansing oil VS Shu Uemura cleansing oil

It’s been awhile since i’ve used Shu Uemura cleansing oil. It all started with my friend bought a big bottle and came with a free miniature and she gave it to me. She was rambling to me how good it was that i just had to try it. As you can see the miniature is quite a big bottle not the super small ones. I have to say i love the size and it’s great for traveling. You just need to use a little and the bottle can last quite long.

I just use it as a make up remover as i have that feeling of it’s not clean enough and worried that my face will be oily (even though it does not feel oily) Basically i’ll double cleansed (re wash my face with a cleanser) After a few times using it, i notice that the make up does not come off as clean as i would like it to be. All this while i was thinking maybe it’s the black eye liner or my super black mascara that i’m using that is just super difficult hard to remove. It always leave a smudgy grayish mark underneath my eyes. So to me at that point i didn’t think much of the product and i was wondering why everyone is so wow about it. I end up trying out my mom’s Loreal  make up remover instead. Affordable and it does the job pretty much the same, in fact at some point i think it was cleaner.

If you are wondering why was i trying out make up remover from everyone? It was because i’ve tried so many times using make up remover and it just doesn’t do the job as much as i like it and i ended up with bottles of them hardly used. So this time i wanted to make sure the brand that i buy does the job well. I’ve tried from over the counter products and branded ones and i’ve got sick and tired of it.

If you are the everyday make up person you want to ensure that you have a good make up remover so that your skin can maintain well, and of course with a good skin care routine that suits you.

All i’m saying is that maybe this product is just not for me. Maybe for some other skin type or someone else have better experience with it other than me.

I used to be a Bobbi Brown fan(didn’t follow their product for sometime) and I remembered long time ago one of my friend told me that they have a good make up remover. One day i pass by the store and decided to check it out. To my surprise the sales was introduced me a new cleansing oil. He told me it’s new in the market and it’s really good. He tested it on my hand. Put some make up on the back of my hand and wipe it with the cleansing oil. It wipes off nicely without leaving the skin oily and no black residue. I told him that it’s just like the Shu Uemura cleansing oil it doesn’t really wipe off entirely when it’s on your eye. He told me, i can try it on you now if you don’t believe me with black eyeliner and mascara. So i told him to bring it on (just another sales tactic i thought)

Well… it did turn out quite well like he said, and i was bought by it. I got myself a bottle Rm 145 and decided to give it a go.

BBcleansing_oil

The conclusion, I love it! It does “the job” as i like it and i don’t even feel that i need to double cleansed after using it. No paranoia that makes me feel as if my skin is oily after using it or any dirty black stain under my eyes. For Rm 145 200 ml i would say it’s still a affordable quality buy for a make up remover. I bought mine i think some time mid of last year and i still have half the bottle left (i use it daily) If your not the type that use it daily i think it can even last you longer.

*Unlike Shu’s when you apply the cleansing oil you need to rub and let the oil sink into your skin then then the make up will slowly come off. For Bobbi it immediately comes off after u sprit some on to your hand/skin u can see the make up start to run straight away.

So far this is one of the best cleansing oil (make up remover) i’ve used and it’s worth the investment.

Till next time…

Urban Decay Book Of Shadows Vol II, My Latest Fav ^_^

DSC_0002

Book of shadows vol 2 by Urban Decay

A make up palette that i’ve been looking for a long time. There it was when i found it on my trip to Paris at Sephora.

DSC_0003

Urban Decay always comes up with a chic and edgy design for their shadows.

DSC_0009

Book of shadows vol 2 glides out in a drawer style. It is quite popular in the UK and the States. What are people raving about it? Well… it’s about the colors! And you have that in one palette on the go. It comes with their very popular in travel size eye shadow primer “Potion” and glide on eye liner in black & brown. I bought a regular size for the “potion” and i love it. Much better eye shadow base than the Mac i’m using. It brighten up your eye shadow colors and most important thing is that it doesn’t smudge. I don’t feel my Mac shadow primer really brighten up the shadow and i feel it still smudge my colors. I especially love it cause i wear eye liner very near my lash line and usually by half the day it kinda get smudge on the bottom of my eye but when i use potion it doesn’t &keep my eyes clean throughout the day ^_^

urbandecay_bookofshadows2001

My favourite color is Flipside, Jinx, AC/DC, Midnight Cowboy, Homegrown erm…. well most of it, LOL.The palette consist of colors in all the range. From day to night and highlights. Urban Decay’s shadows has very thick pigments. All you need to do is lightly apply the shadow. Otherwise it will look very thick. A little can go a long way.

Usually i’ll just wear a light color all over my eyes with some eye liner, mascara and i’m done. Or if i feel like wearing a little more color i will just add a little definition on the outer corner of my eyes with AC/DC so that there’s some depth in the eyes.(don’t have to look smokey all the time) With a palette like that it has great combination and all you need to do is to play around with it and try to mix and match. I haven’t tried everything yet, as soon as i do, i’ll take some pics and review about it.

The whole palette cost around Rm230 i think in some other website you might able to get it around Rm180. It is not available in Malaysia. For that cost i think it’s still very affordable for such a wide range for a color palette. It’s great for traveling and in fact for anything. 1 palette on the go!

Laura Mercier Flawless Face Kit, Review

dsc_0003

My latest splurge for make up as you can see is Laura Mercier flawless face. The kit includes: foundation primer, tinted moisturizer, undercover pot, secret camouflage brush, powder brush, velour puff & sponge. Laura Mercier is very well known for their foundation and that flawless effect without looking cakey or a ton of make up on yr face. Having good skin is important but what if you don’t have good skin? You will need to look like you do :P

dsc_0014

To start off, one of my favourite item from the kit is undercover pot (secret camouflage) On the left hand side is to cover blemishes, red spots or any trouble areas. On the right hand side is a concealer. Twist the pot, underneath is the powder to set the areas. Bear in mind the brushes that comes with the kit is for this item.

I was never a concealer user so this is my first time, same goes for the secret camouflage. After trying it out, i don’t think i can leave the house without using it now hahaha! Apply it after your foundation, just dab it on yr brush and pat it behind your hand so that it’s light and not heavy. Dab it on the area that you want to cover and slowly feather it to blend. Same goes with the concealer. You don’t need to use a lot, just a bit and softly feather it out.

It’s called the secret camouflage for a reason. After you finish your make up , you can see the troubled areas are flawless. If you are one of those like me, with red spots or freckles and some blemishes from time to time, this is the thing you been looking for. I have to say i was very happy with the foundation primer to begin with, but after using the camouflage the primer cannot cover the troubled areas. What’s more to love? Well…. after applying it, it does not look cakey or patchy it looks nicely blended in your foundation on top of that the finish is very natural or as Laura Merceir would say a flawless face.

Of course if you want a flawless face it would not be just the secret camouflage.

dsc_00211

Foundation primer is a base to set your foundation if you don’t know that yet. The importance of the foundation primer is for your make up to last longer (holds foundation and make up for hours & hours), and even out your skin tone. A prep for your foundation.

Tinted moisturizer, don’t get confuse with the name. It’s NOT a moisturizer, it’s a foundation. It’s a medium coverage foundation, and it also have SPF 20. It also hydrates your skin & dry lines. Color stays true and wears evenly leaving a natural glow.  I’ve been using it daily for a couple of weeks now, so far so good. I like the feel, the look and just enough coverage for my everyday look. Leaves me a fresh clean glowing face.

The kit is a good start to try their products. The retail price is at Rm 329. You get a decent size for each item. It will last your for awhile, cause all you need is to use is just a little bit. Remember one thing, when you do your make up make sure your hand movements is light and not heavy and blend everything well. You don’t want to end up a patch of color here and there.

MAC Prep & Prime For The Eyes, Review

Not many people know about prep + prime? The simple term is base. I have written about how MAC Primer help you to camoflage your skin. I have recently bought a MAC Prep + Prime eye base. It works just like the base for your face. It tones back your skin color so when you apply your eye shadow the color pops out more. On top of that the eye shadow will last longer and would not smudge easily.

I use to think it’s does not make any difference but after learning about it now i can appreciate it. Some of you must wonder how does the models or some ppl have their make up on the whole day and does not smudge or get oily and fades off. Simply because of the base. It helps set the make up in it’s place and trust me it really does not fade easily. For those that have a long day or simply going out clubbing at night, don’t have to worry about the sweat or the hot sun will melt away your face.

What i love about it the most is that for a long time i’ve been wondering why everytime i apply light color eye shadow i can’t see the color. All this time i was just like everyone else thinking cause i’m fair so the color doesn’t show much. But i was wrong. Simply  because of your eye area is slightly darker and need to even out the skin tone. Just like our face we might overall look fair but there are areas which is uneven, spots, freckles, veins etc. Just a foundation or eye shadow will not cover those areas. You can just apply it and the spots, freckles, veins, uneven tones will still show through. That is what i believe most people do not realize. So far i’ve been very happy with the results and found a new appreciation for base :P

Benefit’s Benetint Lip Balm

For those who don’t know what’s Benetint, it’s a blusher tint for your cheek. They also have it for your lips. It works just like the Benetint (also check out my review for Posie Tint) for your cheek. Just apply it on your lips and it gives a natural pinkish tone to your lips. You can wear it natural or a lipstick on top. It’s not a gloss or a lipstick it’s just a lip balm. It’s worn underneath your lipstick. For those who like natural pinkish lips i would recommend Benefit’s Benetint. This is something i don’t leave the house without. Especially for those who are worried they might forget their lipstick or gloss, just apply some Benetint and you won’t have to live with pale lips ;)

It’s been a bad habit of mine ever since i had to deal with winter and the dry weather when i was growing up in the states. I have to use lip balm for fall, winter, spring and summer. You don’t really have to use it when it’s hot but you will definitely need it when it’s cold. It gets pretty bad, your lips will break in lines and you will see blood coming out from the lines. As for summer you don’t really have to use it as your lips won’t break out, but some people use it for protection from the sun (SPF for your lips). Also good for exfoliating your lips from time to time.

When it’s cold out and you don’t apply any source of lip balm your lips will break due to the cold/dry weather and strong wind, you will end up with chapped lips. It is definitely not sexy for a girl. Besides protecting our lips , lip balm (chapstick) will also smoothen out the lines on our lips. I guess that’s why people say i have no lines on my lips, nice and smooth :)

My lips always feel dry from time to time and i’ll apply my lip balm and people always ask me and think that i’m applying lipstick. Well… i don’t think it’s a habit i can kick but it definitely won’t do me any bad.
