When you are in Ipoh must have…. famous Ipoh chicken hor fun (noodle)

Smooth tasty chicken…… makes me hungry just looking at it.

It is well known for it’s smoothness. You are suppose to eat it with the chicken and bean sprouts.

Famous beans sprouts. They are shorter, crispier and juicier.

Closer look, hmmm yummy! I can eat the whole plate by myself :P

There are so many places you can find Ipoh hor fun in Ipoh. But this is one of my personal pick which is call Cowan Street Ayam Tauge And Koitiau which is of course located at Cowan Street. It is just off the road of Hotel Excelsior. By the way it’s only open at night. Whenever you drop by the land of grace, this can be one of your destination for food. But if you are looking for chicken noodle during the day, there is another one near by Cowan street as well. Just a few blocks away, at Theatre Street, you can find another popular tourist chicken noodle, Low Wong and Onn Kee. Low Wong is open for night time only as Onn Kee is open for lunch and dinner and the kopitiam is air conditioned.

Happy eating, till next time…

Don’t Get Rip Off From Expensive Florist (part 1)

Search for a florist…

I was busy preparing for my wedding for the past few months. Of course what’s a wedding without nice fresh flowers. I could not believe it when i inquire a few florist and the prices they are throwing out these days. I’ve research it online from Malaysian Brides forum for Ipoh’s florist. There i found this popular florist in Ipoh. They are very modern and designs are quite western and customize to your need. What makes them a little different is that they in-corporate decor together with your flowers. So it’s not just a bunch of flowers. I guess because of their style they charge higher than the usual florist. I made a trip back to Ipoh to visit the place but sadly when i reach it was closed (they had a wedding that weekend) So i took down the number and plan to call them the following week. On the following week, i gave them a call and spoke to a nice girl over the phone. She ask about my requirements and etc. After speaking to her for awhile she then realize that i was someone she knows. She was my friend’s friend. We both laugh and chatted a bit, and i was thinking oh this is a relieve at least there is someone i know to ensure my requirements are met. Over the phone we went through the stuff that i need what ideas i have. All i wanted was a decoration for the main table. She had set a date to finalize things again on my next trip back.

How much does it cost?

2 Weeks later, i was back in Ipoh and excited to visit the florist to finalize the flowers arrangements. Finally i was there, so i ask my friend so around how much do you it will cost? She told me if you want full set up it will be around Rm 1k. I was shock, all i needed is the main table? She was like ya… that’s our charges but we can minus out some stuff if you don’t want the decor. So i told her ok minus out the decor, will just take the flowers. She said ok that’s Rm 800. It is still very expensive. We went through the photos and how i want it to set up, but it’s just ridiculous . Before i went to this florist, weeks ago my friend took me to another florist, Sunny Bloom and they quoted me for the wedding arch and main table set up for Rm500. C’mon this is just the main table. How can this make sense? If you are wondering ok maybe the materials they give is different. Girls if you have some sense do your research first and not jump into a florist on the first try. The decorations is the same, Sunny Bloom can also do what they were doing, on top of that they don’t even restrict what flowers you can choose. Ex: if you want lilies it’s more expensive, extra charge for certain flowers and etc. Sunny Bloom allows you to pick and choose what flowers and how you want it to arrange (of course imported flowers always  have extra charge, simply cause they are imported). I was quite satisfied with their pictures and it’s more or less the same as the other florist.

How much did i pay?

Summing it up, all i needed was flowers decoration for the main table. Started from Rm 1k then got a friendly discount to Rm 800 and i seal the deal with Rm200 :) Got exactly what i wanted. If i was to settle for the 1st florist, it felt like i was chop off with blood dripping all the way from the florist back to my house hahaha! you know what i’m trying to say. Sad to say how much popular people can charge while the not so popular charges a more reasonable price. But from Rm 1k to Rm200 for the same thing and on top of that they were helpful as i requested some ivy leaves for decoration and they throw it in for free.  Hey.. i’m not complaining.

What do we learn from this?

  • Do your research.
  • Don’t make a impulse decision at the heat of the moment.
  • Know what you want, be firm.
  • Set a budget.
  • Think it over, do you really need this? or something you get for go.
Don’t just believe what people say or recommend, see it for yourself. Different people different expectations, styles, taste and etc. Ensure it’s what you are looking for. Don’t adjust to what the sales person is persuading you into a beautiful picture. It’s just all sales talk. Of course they will deliver what they promised, but does it really worth that price?

Scaring ourselves in Ipoh

During my best friends visit, i took them to the land of grace, Ipoh. Our first stop was at Kellie’s Castle.

If you never heard before about Kellie’s Castle it is well known for being haunted. How haunted is it ? Well i’ve heard stories but don’t how true it is so it’s better off thinking it’s just another tourist attraction. Kellie’s Castle (sometimes also called Kellie’s Folly) is located near Batu Gajah, and is about 20 minutes’ drive from Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. The unfinished, ruined mansion, was built by a Scottish planter called William Kellie Smith. According to differing accounts, it was either a gift for his wife or a home for his son.

There are notices around the castle asking you to be careful. They didn’t have the notices few years ago. I guess now by putting the notice it makes the castle scarier.

This is the famous corridor. It is believed that Kellie’s spirit still wonders about at this corridor in the night. Careful when you take pictures at night here! You might see something you don’t want to see…..

Popular movies stars from Hong Kong like Leon Lai and Shu Qi has filmed in the castle, in fact in this very room.

This is the stairs to the basement and it’s pitch black. It used to be a wine cellar… a lot of people gets freaked out walking down here.. I don’t know why.

The girls were making their way down i am just right behind them. Moment later… AAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

SNAP! And there they were, running out of the cellar shouting. This is taken in the pitch black wine cellar when she extended her hand to snap the picture then ran screaming out. I thought what happen?! GOTCHA! all of us started laughing. Thinking back about it.. makes me laugh again! Haha!

Signs like this within the castle gives you the creeps. As if something will happen.

But nothing happened. *whistles*

On the roof top, girls be careful now… you jump i jump! ^_^

This is the last place we snapped pictures and we’re starting to feel hungry so off we go to stuff our face!

To be continued…
