I love my mouse! review

I know it sounds a little crazy but i do love…… :P No not Mickey Mouse but my Logitech M515 couch mouse. Hubby just got a new laptop and his old cordless mouse is not working so just the right time to shop for a new mouse. He was looking at the Microsoft blue track mouse but it’s difficult to find here. He checked all the shops Low Yat and other computer shops but no one has the stock. Well i know a lot of retailers don’t like to carry Microsoft accessories because it’s expensive and not a lot of people would buy them and not much margin.

One day we came across this mouse and i ask hubby how about this one? Looks pretty good. He was on the fence about it because he kept on wanting the Microsoft blue track (that’s the latest technology) After checking out the reviews it seems pretty good so he decided to give it a try.
It was such a surprise how much we like it. It’s so smooth and definitely great when it’s used on the bed or a sofa. The little receiver is great, you can just plug in and forget it. I didn’t like my old Microsoft mouse receiver, it was long and easily it can hit something and you have to re plug it again.

Anyways… the couch mouse has fast scrolling and when it’s pressed down it goes back to normal scrolling. In the middle the little button by default when you click it it open a link in a new tab. You can download stuff in their website and it can turn into something else. Hubby did and it’s close tabs for him now. On the scrolling button push right and left is forward and backwards. There’s a lot of these little features that not a lot of people can appreciate but when you use it it’s really very convenient (especially for people that’s working a lot on their laptop)

At the bottom there’s a on off switch where by you don’t have to unplug the receiver just turn it off when your not using it. Also the receiver can be stored inside the mouse at the battery area. It requires 2 AA batteries and it can last up to 9 months to a year. No worries about where to put the little thing or run out of batteries. It will be there for awhile. If you are afraid always keep 2 AA batteries in your laptop bag just in case.

After trying out the mouse i liked it so much i went and bought one too :P On top of that the price is it’s quite reasonable. We got our old Microsoft laser mouse for Rm 150 last time and this one cost Rm 130 with extra features. Microsoft mouse has no extra features just wireless and of course it’s smooth.

Some of you may think that we’re crazy to spend on a mouse but i guess it’s each person’s preference. It all started out one day that i wanted to buy a wireless mouse because i had a very small space to put my laptop and the wires are everywhere and i couldn’t put my mouse wherever i wanted it. And ever since that day we’re been hook with wireless mouse and it’s really tangle and hassle free. It can be placed on most surfaces except glass (or any surface with a reflection) other than that it’s really smooth. If you are a optical mouse user and thinking about trying it out, i would say definitely worth a try. I think once you try you won’t go back to optical mouse anymore ;)

DWTS season 12, anyone could be the winner…

Dancing with the stars season 12 has tremendous talent. It’s about half way through the season now and i must say everyone is staying strong. Surprisingly some stars that i thought was not going to do well is doing very well. Those that are left in the show now are those who are contender in the competition. Among everyone i guess those that were eliminated were the weak link in the whole group (and it was pretty obvious) It’s a tough competition.

Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas

No surprise that another Disney kid is doing well. Chelsea and Mark has been killing the dance floor since day one. I guess being young and a former cheerleader does have some advantages ;) My favorite dance of theirs up to date is the Viennese Waltz to the Harry Potter music(“Hedwig’s Theme” by John Williams) Mark did great choreography and it suited both of them very well. It was young, playful and magical. My guess i think they are going to stay there for awhile.

Romeo and Chelsea Hightower

I was so surprise when i found out that Romeo is actually Master P’s son 0_O What a big difference. Master P was on dwts a few seasons back and he was so terrible. Not just the dancing, but his attitude and personality was bad. The dancing was horrendous! Romeo is quite charming in his own way and he’s really learning every week. Like Len said, he’s turning out to be a fine gentleman. Not sure how long he will stay but he’s got a lot of people to beat, he better up his game every week.

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy

I don’t know, i think they are both good friends. After 2 mishaps on the dance floor still going on strong. I think they have developed a beautiful friendship. Kirstie does have a dancing bone in her body and a lot of the movements come very natural to her. Kudos to her after all the mishap and goodness can you believe that she’s 60, you go girl! Hot mama with the young hot thing ;P

Hines Ward and Kym Johnson

I think they are so cute as a couple. Can’t believe Hines is half Korean he doesn’t look anything like it. He’s been killing the dance floor every week. He’s been staying at the top for a couple of weeks now. The dude definitely can dance. Both of them have great chemistry and it shows. As much as i like Ralph Macchio to win, i think they really have a chance of winning it.

Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff

Ah… my favorite but it’s sad to see that he’s been falling to the bottom of the scoreboard. He’s been falling because others been raising. He really need to up his game. He really need to buck up and get good scores and of course for the fans to vote! No matter what the judges say about him, he definitely has a dancing bone in his body. He might not fair very well in certain type of dances but he can dance. He’s a natural. There’s not stiffness and it look so effortless. My favorite dance of his has got to be the waltz  (“Romeo and Juliet” by Tchaikovsky) He told such a beautiful story on the dance floor. I hope he get’s back up in the scoreboard soon. He’s definitely a contender :)

Voted out or should be voted out

Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke

Sad to see that he was voted out this week. He’s definitely someone that has improved so much. Hey! he’s a wrestler who knew can dance like that?! I didn’t think it was his time to go. Oh well… Kendra had a good samba, who knew!? Then again she can shake her bum, lol.

Kendra Wilkinson and Louie Van Amstel

Just like everyone i thinks she should be the one that’s voted out rather than Chris Jericho. She was not doing well for the past few weeks. I guess being a ex playboy bunny has some audience that is more than willing to vote for her :P

Wendy Williams and Toni Dovalani

I think a lot of people is shock to see Wendy perform the way she did. Big personality and all but her dances are so timid. Her boobs were too big and seriously she need to get a new weave/wig. It was horrible and look so fake. Make her look like a lady boy, lol. It didn’t took her long to get eliminated, week 2. Poor Tony, why does he always get bad partners. I love to see Tony in the finals.

Mike Catherwood and Lacey Schwimmer

So you finally see the dude (psycho Mike) that’s talking on Loveline with Dr. Drew Pinsky. Stiff as a rock, the dude can’t dance man. Easy guess he’s the first one to go. Body builders can’t dance, i think their muscles are too stiff.

Sugar Ray Leonard  and Anna Trebunsakaya

I have to say Sugar Ray is a sweet guy i mean he’s a boxer didn’t expect him to be such a nice guy. Among all the pro’s i don’t like Anna. I don’t know i just don’t like her. I’ve seen her with other stars and never really like the way she teach and i don’t like her attitude.

This season has great talent, can’t wait to see who is in the finals. It really could be anybody’s game ;)

What you should know when you are flying with your baby

Are you flying for the first time with your baby? It could be a holiday or business trip or simply visiting someone. Traveling for the first time with your baby can be a little nerve wreaking. Don’t know what to expect. How would the baby cope with flying? Will the baby sleep like usual? Will it disturb her schedule? These are the most common questions we ponder about when we travel with babies.

Babies fly with a  X amount of percentage of the adult flight ticket depending on which airline you take (ex: 10% or 15%) They are called lap babies from ages 2 weeks to 24 months. You would not need to purchase a seat for your baby unless it’s more than 24 months (same for Air Asia)

Questions

How do i check in my stroller?

Check in

I get this question a lot. When you check in, tell the person that you will be checking in your stroller at the gate they will give you a tag to hang on your stroller. Usually they will know cause your ticket will say you have a child with you. They will ask if you want to check in the stroller or at the gate and you want to say check in at the gate. Checking in at the gate meaning you can take the stroller with you until you board. They will ask people with stroller or wheelchair to board first and you can just leave your stroller with their assistant. If you check in with your baggage with your stroller, it will be treated like a baggage. They will take it when you check in. This is a standard procedure for all air lines (Yes even Air Asia. You can stroll until the plane and there will be an assistant to take your stroller)

Arrival

When you exit wait at the door of the plane. It takes them a couple of minutes for them to get the stroller out from the baggage cabin. It is not stow at the passenger cabin but with the baggage. If the air stewardess ask just say you are waiting for the stroller which usually they will know. Each stroller will be in a thick clear plastic bag. Just find your stroller and pop it up and you are good to go.

Sleeping

With a baby when you buy your ticket you can request for a baby bassinet on flight. The seating will be at the first row with extra leg room. There will be no extra charge. Having said that it’s always first come first serve. There fore don’t book the flight too late otherwise all the seats will be taken and the seats are very limited (usually only in the middle row, some airlines don’t use side row. All depends on your airline)

No bassinet for Air Asia local (not sure for their international flights) You can buy the front row which is their hot seats with extra charge.

Most babies will find it difficult to sleep especially when they are at a new and a crowded environment. Do have a sleeping routine so that the baby can feel safe to sleep in your arms first before putting her in the bassinet.

When baby Berry was sleepy in the plane, i sway her at the corner of the plane, maybe sing her a tune to sleep. I made sure that she was sleepy, pop in her pacifier and sway to calm her down and before i know it she was fast asleep, no more than 15 minutes. I prep the bassinet with her own blanket and brought her favorite snuggly to sleep. I just lay her in the bassinet pull the shades up and it’s nighty nighty for her. I flew 23 hours flight with no problems. On top of that i played with her and made sure that she was very tired so that it’s easier for her to sleep ;)

Feeding, what are you allow to bring on board?

You can bring water or hot water, formula, baby food, baby snack basically anything for a baby. Some countries may require for you to declare your baby formula (because of the ingredients) but with most countries it should not be a problem. Pack your formula in a air tight tupperware and make sure it won’t leak. Do make sure you time the feedings accurately especially if you are traveling with a time difference. Some babies will lose appetite when they travel just like adults. Be patient and once they are settled in the new place everything will be back to normal.

The airline will come with a complimentary baby food (usually Heinz baby food) but of course if your baby are not taking any baby food yet you can always ask them to take it back. Some airlines will provide complimentary baby goody bag (it contains a diaper, lotion, nappy cream etc)

Air pressure can hurt babies ears

Taking off and landing can hurt babies ears. If you have encounter with babies crying in a plane while taking off or landing this is probably the case. I think most parents missed out on this little detail until they are flying. Nothing to worry just pop in the pacifier or if it’s a breastfeeding baby just nurse the baby and the baby should be fine.

Don’t forget even though if your flight is 1 hour or 20 hours remember to bring toys to entertain your baby. Babies will get irritated or fussy, after all it’s a restrict area for a period of time.

Pooping

If you can i would say poop the baby when you are at the airport where by you get a proper changing area. But of course you never know when the baby might poop so it’s totally out of your control. There is a pull down changing table in the plane. Bear in mind that the washroom in the plane is very small. You won’t get much space to properly clean the baby. I must say it was a challenge for me, no fear it still can be done :P

Don’t be afraid to ask for hot water with the air stewardess or anything else. They will be more than glad to assist you. Do prepare extra diapers, formula, baby wipes, clothes, handkerchief whatever else that you need in case there’s a delay. Happy flying ;)

Baby Bjorn review (original)

I bought this when i went to Canada. Knowing that i definitely needed something to carry baby Berry in with while walking through the crowds and when i want to make a move. I have to say when i first got it, i was so in love with it. It’s really good when you are on the go. Want to jump in and out with a baby and you have free hands to carry stuff. This is something i can’t live without when i travel. The design is really good.  It’s user friendly, clean sleek straps easy to put the baby in and out. The carrier has a ergonomic support from the head, back, shoulders, hips from birth. It holds on really well it’s like the baby is sitting in a harnest and it’s very comfortable.

Specifications, product care and carrying positions (BabyBjorn)

It can be use from newborn (at least 8 lbs and 21 in/3.5 kg and 53 cm) up to 25 lbs/11 kg. If you buy this early you definitely can use this to the maximun level. I only bought this when baby Berry was 5 months. Didn’t get a chance to use it when she was younger.

It’s 100% cotton fabric. The textiles closest to the child have been tested and approved in accordance with Oeko-Tex Standard 100, class 1 for baby products. They are guaranteed harmless to children’s sensitive skin and will not trigger allergies. It’s safe for baby to bite. When i first use it baby Berry always bite it cause it falls just right under her chin and it’s good to know that it’s a safe material for her to bite.

I just hand wash mine but it can be machine wash. Wash separately with a gentle, bleach-free detergent (baby detergent) or occasionally wipe it with a wet cloth.

When the child is older and has a stronger neck, the head support may be folded down, allowing the child to be carried facing forward and to have a look around.

There are a variety of colors for you to choose from. I played safe and choose black which i think i regret a little. Black can easily attract dust and mosquitoes, i should have choose a lighter color (really like the beige color) Only realize that after i start to use it (oh well!) But i like the funky colors too, so pick your favorite color :)

Indoors and outdoors

Not only it can be used outdoors but it can be used for indoors as well. It comes in handy during the early months when the baby needs to be held for sleeping or wants to be cuddle most of the time. It gives you the freedom to carry the baby and do things at the same time without making your arms tired. Dad’s can wear this too to rock the baby to sleep before putting the baby down to the crib. All the dad’s don’t have the excuse of saying they don’t know how to carry the baby etc :P It’s nice and comfy and the baby can hear the heart beat just like when mom is carrying them ;)

Having said that using the Bjorn too much at home will become a bad habit. Just another accessory to carry the baby instead of your arms. So if you are planning to use it do use it carefully.

In this picture baby Berry was 5 months. As i mention before this is definitely one of my baby gear must have. Even though baby Berry is 10 months now, it’s good to give her some relieve time when she’s tired of sitting in the stroller. . When i first put her in it she already love it. She really enjoys being in the Bjorn. Having said that….putting your baby in different accessories etc in the early stages are easier to train them. My best friend bought the Bjorn when her daughter was 6 months and she refuse to be in it. She didn’t have a good experience and she said it’s wasted. Of course now that she know for the next child she will start using earlier. Babies start to be choosy when they reach 6 months. They will start to be skeptical with things they are not familiar with.

It’s also great use when the baby gets fussy and just hook her on instead of carrying her in your arms. Seriously….. how long can you carry her? Maybe when the baby is light you won’t feel any stress in your arms, but what happens when i’s 8kg or more ? How long can your arms handle? You really gotta think about it. Hubby and i are not the carrying parents, if she need to be carried either one of us will hook her up on the Bjorn. We don’t put her there for long, around half and hour. It’s said that the baby can stay in the Bjorn for 2 hours. That is if the baby is sleeping for those who use it at home.
It was easy for me to bring baby Berry at the busy airport going through custom, check in’s etc.

Baby Berry at 10 months. As i said before it’s great use when at a crowded place like pasar malam (night market) and dad can just hook her on. At the same time she can enjoy the walk with you.

Some down side to the Bjorn

I have no doubt that when the baby is small it’s really a fantastic baby gear to have. It’s said that the way that it’s design that it won’t hurt your back cause it uses the upper part of your body instead of the shoulders or the back so that it’s balance and the weight is evenly distributed when carrying the baby. Well….. it is when the baby is light after using it for awhile now and baby Berry is growing with the Bjorn i definitely can tell you what are the down side.

As she gets heavier the Bjorn does tug on my shoulders a bit. The thing is there’s a X at the back which can be adjusted and that is how it distribute the weight. But even i have adjusted it properly and evenly because she’s heavier now after i carried her in between my shoulder back area is quite stressed. You need to pull the X at the back properly otherwise you would feel the baby is heavy cause the straps determine how it balances out the weight. There was one time i felt she was heavy and i kept on telling hubby that it was not like that the last time i carried her so after fiddling with the Bjorn and we finally found out why. Hubby just fix the X at the back and immediately she got lighter. A lot of people don’t know that. I met a girl on the flight on the way back from Canada she have the same Bjorn and she was telling me that it hurts her back a little. So i told her to adjust the X properly, definitely you can feel the difference.

I’ve shop around for carriers before i bought this and i have to say the sleek stylish user friendly design wins it all. Award winning and good quality for a carrier it is a little pricey. I have to say it was worth it. I just fold it and put it in my stroller basket or in my baby bag. I love how easy it is to snap on the baby. Before this i tried some that was like a ton of straps and it’s just too complicated to just put the baby in. It comes in different type of material that suit different type of usage like active carrier, air carrier mesh material, organic, synergy and comfort. The original material is not that hot even though they have a material that’s for summer weather which is the air comfort (made with mesh material) Active carrier can carry the baby up to 2 years with a extra belt support. So there is a variety for your to choose from.

I got mine for Rm 399 original. Each model price differs, it’s Rm 399 onwards. Even with the down side of the Bjorn i still love it. I think it’s great for daddy’s to snap the baby on when mommy is tired. I definitely feel that the dad can take the baby weight more than the mom’s. Hope you find this review helpful happy shopping ;)

What is Flexi bath? review

Flexi bath Award winning design Formland 2008

What is this bathtub all about? Not only that it’s great for traveling but also great to use at home. I don’t know why they call it hard plastic to me i would consider it soft plastic but hard enough to stand on it’s own(The material is different from your normal bathtub which i call those hard plastic) When i saw this bathtub i have to say i was really impress with the design, how it can fold together in such a slim manner.

I bought the original color i like how i can see through the plastic :P It comes in so many colors some see through some in solid colors. It says from 0-4 yrs but i feel that for infant it’s a little too deep. Definitely would need that net thingy to put on top or any type of support for babies. When the baby is bigger the water can be deep enough to cover most of the body up to the shoulders when they are sitting. I didn’t know at first when baby Berry was 5 months and was not able to sit steadily yet so i bath her in a slanted position and the bathtub move. Don’t use the bathtub for support because it is soft and it will move. It shock me when i was bathing her and when her leg stretch out the bathtub will follow outwards.

The soft rubber lining makes the edges foldable. You can see how compact it is. When i traveled to Canada in my 25″ bag it took just about 4 inches of my space. It’s just wonderful that i can have so much space with a bathtub. Especially with a baby you should know there’s a lot of things to pack when you travel.

Rm 199 at Robinsons

I like the size i think it’s just right and can even fit 2 babies. It is a little pricey for a bathtub but if you use it since day one you will always get the maximum benefit out of it. A good 4 years which i think it’s reasonable time and can always store it away and keep it for the next baby (the quality is very good)

Although now that baby Berry can sit and going to walk soon, bathing her in a tub will take longer cause she loves to play with the water. For a fast one i like to use hand shower where by she can sit and can easily shower her and i’m done. Having said if you are traveling you are unable to do that. Most hotels don’t have a hand shower so with a baby you would need a bathtub even though baby Berry can sit. You can bath a baby in the adult tub. It’s just not safe.

At the beginning hubby and i was like are you crazy so expensive for a bathtub!? After searching for other options…. which was very limited. We found one that’s like a blow up pool and that cost Rm 145 might as well get a proper one. That one, you have to blow it everyday and you can’t leave it blowed up. Hubby was like, i ain’t blowing it for you everyday >_< haha. So with very little time and we were about to fly soon so we just bought this one. I have to say both of us have no regrets :) It is so convenient, we never have to worry about packing it. One of my baby gear must have when i know there is no hand shower. But definitely is more useful for those with a baby that is still younger than 6 months. That is why when you buy it since day 1 definitely will get full benefit and when you think about it it’s not that expensive. It can be use from 0-4 years, from home to traveling and can be easily stored away and keep for the next baby ;)

What is a single child syndrome ?!

I believe all only child have single child syndrome in some ways. Those are my words i thought… but after googling it then i found out OH there really is such a thing, lol. Well…. i have friends that is a single child and….. to some extend i really can’t stand them and some of them were my good friends. I give them a lot of benefit of the doubt but really it got stop sometimes, it ain’t all about you.

Characteristic of a single child

  • The easiest characteristic to identify of a single child is selfish. Yup! that’s not difficult to see when one of your friends are selfish. They only think of themselves. Think about it maybe 1 person in your pack is like that :P
  • Not a sharing person. This also links back to think of themselves only = selfish.
  • They are smart, ambitious, active basically everything they do is great! Are you kidding me ?! Well… they have no one to compare with there for….. they are great (in their own eyes) They have to be better than you.
  • Have a bossy attitude. As if their opinion matters the most. What they say goes…. they haven’t gone to the real world yet, that’s just being rude if you ask me.
  • Tend to be manipulative because they will do anything to get what they want (can come off as bullying)
  • Some are shy and passive because they feel lonely and no one to share with (maybe a little weird and strange)

Usually they are not the easiest person to get along with. I have a couple of friends that i use to hang out with and it’s always been a challenge. I’ve never knew they were a single child at the beginning but after hanging out for quite sometime and then i found out it totally make sense. They have all the characteristics mention above. My friends are from different groups of people. When i think about it, they all pretty much have the same thing in common.

Don’t try to change them

If you have a only child as a mate/partner all i have to say is if you are trying to change them, don’t cause they won’t. Think about it…. they’ve been like that since they were born. Since they are the only child i’m pretty sure the parents have spoil them since they were a baby. Don’t even try fixing it because you just can’t. They are born like that and raise like that because they are the only most charming thing that happen in their parents life. They’ve been treated like gold since they were born. It doesn’t take a genius to understand why they have adapt the characteristic above.

How i deal with it

For me i’ve always give in a little to my friends, since they are my friends and i’m willing to compromise but it has it’s limit. To a certain extend you need to put your foot down otherwise they will just walk all over you and think they own you. I always try to be nice first… and if it’s not appreciated it’s gonna be a rough ride because i will put my foot down. They will know next time they can’t bully you. For some people they might be the passive one and definitely will get bullied by a single child. I guess if both characters can balance each other, heck! why not?

How to discourage baby bad habits

Finger in the mouth

Although finger in the mouth might be cute at the beginning but it will become a bad habit in the future. As the baby grows older finger in the mouth will not be cute anymore :P This is the first habit a baby start to have because their gums start to itch. I’m sure most people will have a teething toy ready. Having said that not all babies will be happy with just a teething toy and not all teething toys are the same in terms of material and designs. Babies do choose what they like and don’t like. Have an open mind instead of getting stuck with the item that you bought.

  • Try different types of teething toys and material, shapes and designs. Once your baby find something she likes, she will hang on to it for awhile rather than being fussy all the time because there’s something to soothe her itchy gums. Baby Berry prefers chewing on her soft toys than a actual teething toy…. oh well… whatever keeps her busy :P (make sure you wash the time from time to time)
  • When your baby is chewing on her finger, meaning that she needs something to bite on, give an alternative for her to chew on so that she would forget about the finger and move on (which usually they do) Having said that also must be something she likes to chew. Don’t keep on giving something that she don’t like and you will be thinking “oh she don’t want it just want her finger” but in reality she just don’t like the toy and went back for the finger.

Simply put anything in the mouth

This is something you have to tell the baby that it’s NO it cannot be put in the mouth. Although you might think it’s silly that she don’t understand…. but they do understand if you said it enough when she does it.

Give the baby an alternative toy so that she can use that toy to soothe her rather than her finger.

Carrying/ holding at all times

This is one of my best friend, her son wants to be held at all times. We were going to the Toronto Zoo and he was in her arms the entire day. I forgot to mention he’s 17 months :P Yup that’s right and he’s a big boy and she’s a small gal. I say thumbs up for her ;) While… baby Berry and my other best friend daughter was snoozing in the stroller while we wait for the bus.

No matter you are at home or out your baby wants to be carried at all times. This is another bad habit that needs to knocked out before your arms do, hehe. Since birth most babies are held most of the time, especially breastfed babies but this can turn into a habit that can make every parent go crazy.

  • At 2 and half months you should start to put your baby down at a rocker or on the bed with a pillow slightly tilted. You can talk or entertain the baby without carrying her all the time.
  • She will eventually know that this is how the environment is, not to be cuddle at all times can also be safe.
  • Latest by 5 months most babies are able to grasp  a toy this is the perfect time to really train the baby to play by herself.
  • Babies enjoy playing with their new found skill. Grasping and shaking a toy. These are the things that will distract them from being wanting to be carried at all times.
  • Have a peace of mind set that, if the baby cries…. hold out a toy and play with her before jumping in and pick her up right away (the baby will know each time she cries mommy will carry her)

This could be one of the most challenging habit to knock out the key is PATIENCES. It can be done ;)

Sitting in a stroller/ car seat

If you ask me…. i would say start training your baby in a stroller as early as possible. If you have been following me you should know that how much i stress on sitting in the stroller.

  • If you are able to put your baby in a stroller it’s the same for a rocker and a car seat. The key is that the baby can be put down and sit there on it’s own not be stuck on mommy all the time.
  • It’s about conditioning the baby to be able to put down and letting the baby know when it’s time to be held and to be put down.
  • Don’t forget her favorite toys for her to play with while sitting in a stroller or a car seat/ rocker.

Sucking on a pacifier/ soother when it’s not sleeping time

A lot of parents are afraid of giving the baby a pacifier because they are afraid of the baby getting stuck with it and it would be a problem for them to win the pacifier off.

  • First off the pacifier is meant to be a soother/ relaxer for the baby to sleep easier. Babies are stressful and they need to de stress it out on something.
  • It is not meant to be sucked on when the baby is awake or playing on it’s own.
  • Pacifier is to be used when the baby is stressed or looking for comfort.
  • It needs to be control by the parent otherwise the child will be stuck to the pacifier until she’s 6 yrs old and i tell you it’s not looking good (i saw it with my own eyes)

Pacifier is recommended till 18 months and should start slowly to discourage the usage of the pacifier at 12 months. Some says should start by 6 months but i feel it’s a little too early because i need to use the pacifier to soothe her gums when she’s teething. I have a few of them on stand by so that i can swap it in the middle of the night. A frozen pacifier really does help the gums on those restless nights.

I think i’ve covered most of the common bad habits. If you have a bad habit story to share do write on the comment below and we can share our opinions. If you are one of those that are dealing with the bad habit i hope this is something that can help you out, good luck!

It’s playtime!

When your baby is around 3 months you will notice that she’s getting really playful. Cooing and giggling and trying to get your attention because she wants to play with you. If the baby is sticky now no worries, when the baby can grab and hold a toy she will be able to entertained herself. Lying there with a rattle to eventually sitting and playing by herself.

Prop the baby with a pillow slanted position and give the baby a toy to hold on to. It’s a new skill for them to hold on to things and best with a rattler cause it makes noise and they love it.

Baby Berry was 5+months at that time and she loves to watch her morning cartoons while chewing her toy. I can do my own things when she entertained herself :) This can be a transition if your baby likes to be carried at all times THIS is when you start training. They are occupied and they love to practice their new skill.

At 4+ months they will be rolling over and enjoys playing at the same time. Do be careful while putting your baby on the bed. It’s easily for them to roll off within a split second. Best to have a mattress on the floor.

Hubby has a friend that has a baby girl that’s the same age as baby Berry in fact they have the same birthday. After hanging out with them a couple of times and we realize that the mom is very stingy over toys. After a few play dates, because they were the same age we notice that their baby don’t know how to play with toys. She would just sit there and do nothing while baby Berry is super active banging things, shaking the ball, crawling all over. Since there was a comparison the dad notice that his daughter is a little docile and timid. Maybe she was not as expose and was not given things to trigger her senses and mobility. She’s already 10 months now and still not much crawling, i think she will skip crawling and go straight to walking (some babies do that) We feel don’t be too stingy on toys select what’s good to invest on.

Types of playmat

As your baby grows older you will need a playmat. The most practical one i found is those ABC puzzle foam mats or some with pictures. I got mine at Parkson at Rm 105 i think it’s slightly expensive because of the Disney characters. ABC’s and pictures puzzle foam mat can be found at Jusco for Rm 59. Mine came with a carry bag it’s easy to travel with and you can adjust the size as you need and put it anywhere you feel that’s necessary. It’s great for crawling babies and prevention when they fall. It has a sturdy surface and foam texture. Before i bought this i was using a single futon. It was just too soft and she was trying to crawl out of it all the time. When i changed to this she loves it. She would just stay within her area and i don’t have to worry the floor is too hard as the mat has a foam protection. You can always buy more for a larger surface as all the puzzles comes in standard size. There are some playmat that is selling i think ridiculously expensive at Mothercare. It’s a waterproof rubbery type of material and the size is about the same as the picture above (which is a reasonable size) selling at Rm 499 (i think i saw 1 that is Rm 699) Are you kidding me?! I really don’t see the value in it, i’m sorry. Ya it has nice characters and better quality but at that price it’s just ridiculous for a playmat. Then there are those from Fisher Price which i think it’s too small with loads of batteries toys attached to it and also not worth the price and it doesn’t even have foam protection. Bear in mind what is it that you need? I wanted a big wide surface which she can play, crawl, lie down and not hurt herself. Before buying think about why and how it can accommodate your baby lifestyle.

Selections of toys

These days toys can be pricey, especially learning toys. Hubby and i thinks that learning toys although maybe a little pricey but it’s encourages good development for the baby. I’m not saying go out and buy all the learning toys, but select what you think that’s appropriate for your baby. We try to select toys that can teach her a new skill at her development stage. These toys are safe for babies to chew on. Bear in mind that whatever month it’s stated it’s always early. That’s how they make money so that people would buy them earlier. Don’t get frustrated when the baby don’t stack or put in shapes that they are suppose to. They will chew on it or bang on it first before they actually learn to do what they are suppose to do.

I bought baby Berry first toy from Lamaze. It’s a hanging dinosaur. It was introduce to her since the day she was born. Till this day she loves her dinosaur. I notice that she likes toys that has a face. She doesn’t like those that’s half a face, like a fish or a horse. She likes those with full face with eyes, nose and mouth in front and it has to look cute. I think it’s a great starter toy, it can be hang at a car seat, stroller, spring cot etc. She enjoyed all the bright colors and it exercise her senses. I bought her another one which is a square with lot’s of different texture and activity but still she went back to the dinosaur. I don’t know why, i think it’s the face. The square don’t have a face just four sides with different texture and colors and hanging stuff. She played with it but just at the beginning only.

Lamaze Magnetic bugs

Baby Berry pick this one herself when we were at the toy section one day. She was attracted to it among all the other toys on the shelf. It’s magnetic and it’s cute. She loves to bite on them and after i play stacking with her she likes to push it and make everything fall apart. She will be holding one and i’ll magnet it away from her, hehe. Babies get bored of their toys very fast, at least this one has a couple of them for her to play with instead of just 1 toy (this also won one of those best toy invention award thingy)

Braun (Toysrus brand) activity board

I just got this when baby Berry turn 8 months. I know that i needed something more to keep her busy. When i saw this at Toysrus, i was like ya! this is the one. It has all the elements that i wanted which i knew would keep her interested for awhile. She can press everything there and music would play. She likes to spin the flower and watch movements of the balls moving. Every time she flip the windows music would play and she can press on it, it would make a sound. When i travel i take this board with me and i’m done. There are belts at the back that can be hang on to a crib. I just love this thing :P On top of that i think the price is quite reasonable compared to the ones that Fisher Price is selling (which i think at times it’s just ridiculous) I was looking for it for a long time but all i see is Fisher Price selling their super expensive version which i don’t think it’s worth it. I saw one that was selling at Rm 300+ i think some were 400+ a board just like this one with 4-5 items for it to sing and read stories which i don’t think it’s practical because too many things at one board. Those toys on the board you can find it selling separately on it’s own. Not going to pay Rm400+ for 4-5 items which i can get them separately. If i do like one of them i can have the option to buy 1 item. Fisher Price sell it more expensive because each item they make is heavy duty and it uses batteries. I do have some of Fisher Price toys but do select them wisely cause some of them are just not practical. I can find somewhat like toys which has better designs and cost less. I bought a bag of plastic vegetables for Rm 9 you don’t need to spend a lot to learn about fruits and veggies. These type of toys you can buy cheaper ones rather than the expensive ones. Do pick and choose which ones you think it’s important to spend your $ on ;)

Also don’t feel bad when the baby don’t respond to the new toy that you just bought for her right away, she will always come back to it. Sometimes they need to get use to it and especially for learning toys i feel they need to get use to it first before they really enjoy it. Don’t think it’s a waste it’s not they always come back for it, trust me ;)

Babies get bored of their toys easily so do keep in mind that you need a variety of toys. Select those that you feel important for learning at their stage; mobility, senses, coordination and language skills are very important for a baby. Babies especially like bright color toys with sounds and movementsBEAR in mind that playing is learning for a child don’t forget that.

My latest splurge for baby Berry, Fisher Price activity table. Let me know if anyone is interested i’ll do a review on it.

Circle lenses, what do you know about them?

Circle lenses if you have not heard of them yet, it’s a cosmetic contacts that make your eyes look bigger. Very popular from Korea and Japan and now most Asian countries. I was too very skeptical when i heard about it. After seeing the pictures made me just want to try them out. After wearing them, make you that ……………………………………………………………………………….. much prettier :P

Questions i had before buying

How come i can’t find it in retail stores like, England optical, 88, MOG or any other specialize eye wear store?

How safe are they?

Something must be not right if it’s not selling in retail stores?!

Is it comfortable?

Is there any side effects after wearing?

Why is it only available online?

No prescription needed?

Answers

I did my research and found out some answers which i’m not too convinced. It is not FDA approved (Food And Drug Administration=FDA) is the federal governmental agency charged with protecting the health and welfare of the American public through the regulation of food, drugs and medical devices, among other responsibilities. Americans like to protect people, hehe :P When it’s not FDA approved most likely that it’s not safe. I also found out that it can be worn for only 4 hours because of the material that it’s made of. I think that’s why it’s not FDA approved. The material are probably not safe enough. If it’s worn more than 4 hours your eyes will get really dry not enough air to ventilate the eyes. You REALLY don’t want to play with your eye like that, no joke.

These are some of the designs they have. Different variety of colors and forms to make your eyes look bigger and brighter. They are some designs out there that make your eyes look artificial. I don’t know i think it looks creepy. You can even order it with a prescription. I guess most people that wear glasses/contacts would know their own prescription but ordering it without going through a proper shop, makes you wonder how safe are they? On top of that you can buy it online at Rm 25-45 a pair. Yup that’s right! it’s that cheap. Some popular online store is selling it at Rm 79- 99 a pair. A lot of  Youtube guru’s are buying from them.

Although some times we wish we look like a cute Korean or Japanese but please do it in a safe way.

I was curious and bought 1 pair of circle lens online to see how are they. I tried out gray and i really like how it look on me. I have to say i’m impressed. It really does make your eyes bigger and nicer. Sadly once hubby found out, he was all up at my business and i was not allowed to wear it anymore because it’s not safe. He even asked the eye doctor and the doctor said if it’s not prescriptive please don’t wear it. Never know what are the side effects and what type of material that’s used inside. That is why the specialize eye shops are not selling them.

Luckily one day i walk into England optical and just ask them if they sell any enlargement contacts and they said yes. I was so happy :D From there i was introduced to Freshkon Alluring eyes. I know that their bigger eyes was out probably 3 years ago but now they come in colors.

Freshkon has been in the market for some time now but back then their color contacts were not comfortable at all. I’ve tried it my friends tried it and all was not comfortable. Their color contacts were dryin itchy and feels like something is poking. They have come far from that now, BIG improvement.

I’ve just recently tried their magnetic grey and i love it! It’s so natural and gives that bright eye effect. It is safe and it’s a prescriptive lens. Like any other contacts it’s to be worn for 8 hours. It’s comfortable no poking in the eye. My eyes tend to be a little dry so usually i’ll look for higher water content which this one consist 55%, I think others are usually 38%- 49%. Diameter is 14.2mm which has that enlargement to your eye. Most clear contacts or color contacts is 14mm. I’m so impressed with it, it’s even more comfortable than my Ciba Vision Dailies which was suppose to be very comfortable because it’s so thin. My dailies can’t even compare with this one, occasionally will poke me and feels very itchy some times feels very dry within 1 hour.

I’m wearing magnetic gray. You can see how much it makes my eyes look bigger and wider (in cantonese, cheng sun)

For enlargement and color effect check out their Alluring Eyes. Color Fusion will just give you color with no enlargement. It will give you that dolly eye Korean/Japanese look. Do check out their new colors old colors are not as nice as the new ones.

*Light color will always make you look a little alien because we are Asians. The key is dark hair dark eyes. Try dark tone colors like dark green, gray, brown or even purple it won’t look freaky. Appropriate for work and looks very natural. In my opinion stay away from light blue, green, violet and there are so many shades of those colors that can make you look like you just came out of Twilight.
