Laura Mercier Flawless Face Kit, Review

dsc_0003

My latest splurge for make up as you can see is Laura Mercier flawless face. The kit includes: foundation primer, tinted moisturizer, undercover pot, secret camouflage brush, powder brush, velour puff & sponge. Laura Mercier is very well known for their foundation and that flawless effect without looking cakey or a ton of make up on yr face. Having good skin is important but what if you don’t have good skin? You will need to look like you do :P

dsc_0014

To start off, one of my favourite item from the kit is undercover pot (secret camouflage) On the left hand side is to cover blemishes, red spots or any trouble areas. On the right hand side is a concealer. Twist the pot, underneath is the powder to set the areas. Bear in mind the brushes that comes with the kit is for this item.

I was never a concealer user so this is my first time, same goes for the secret camouflage. After trying it out, i don’t think i can leave the house without using it now hahaha! Apply it after your foundation, just dab it on yr brush and pat it behind your hand so that it’s light and not heavy. Dab it on the area that you want to cover and slowly feather it to blend. Same goes with the concealer. You don’t need to use a lot, just a bit and softly feather it out.

It’s called the secret camouflage for a reason. After you finish your make up , you can see the troubled areas are flawless. If you are one of those like me, with red spots or freckles and some blemishes from time to time, this is the thing you been looking for. I have to say i was very happy with the foundation primer to begin with, but after using the camouflage the primer cannot cover the troubled areas. What’s more to love? Well…. after applying it, it does not look cakey or patchy it looks nicely blended in your foundation on top of that the finish is very natural or as Laura Merceir would say a flawless face.

Of course if you want a flawless face it would not be just the secret camouflage.

dsc_00211

Foundation primer is a base to set your foundation if you don’t know that yet. The importance of the foundation primer is for your make up to last longer (holds foundation and make up for hours & hours), and even out your skin tone. A prep for your foundation.

Tinted moisturizer, don’t get confuse with the name. It’s NOT a moisturizer, it’s a foundation. It’s a medium coverage foundation, and it also have SPF 20. It also hydrates your skin & dry lines. Color stays true and wears evenly leaving a natural glow.  I’ve been using it daily for a couple of weeks now, so far so good. I like the feel, the look and just enough coverage for my everyday look. Leaves me a fresh clean glowing face.

The kit is a good start to try their products. The retail price is at Rm 329. You get a decent size for each item. It will last your for awhile, cause all you need is to use is just a little bit. Remember one thing, when you do your make up make sure your hand movements is light and not heavy and blend everything well. You don’t want to end up a patch of color here and there.

Don’t Get Rip Off From Expensive Florist (part 1)

Search for a florist…

I was busy preparing for my wedding for the past few months. Of course what’s a wedding without nice fresh flowers. I could not believe it when i inquire a few florist and the prices they are throwing out these days. I’ve research it online from Malaysian Brides forum for Ipoh’s florist. There i found this popular florist in Ipoh. They are very modern and designs are quite western and customize to your need. What makes them a little different is that they in-corporate decor together with your flowers. So it’s not just a bunch of flowers. I guess because of their style they charge higher than the usual florist. I made a trip back to Ipoh to visit the place but sadly when i reach it was closed (they had a wedding that weekend) So i took down the number and plan to call them the following week. On the following week, i gave them a call and spoke to a nice girl over the phone. She ask about my requirements and etc. After speaking to her for awhile she then realize that i was someone she knows. She was my friend’s friend. We both laugh and chatted a bit, and i was thinking oh this is a relieve at least there is someone i know to ensure my requirements are met. Over the phone we went through the stuff that i need what ideas i have. All i wanted was a decoration for the main table. She had set a date to finalize things again on my next trip back.

How much does it cost?

2 Weeks later, i was back in Ipoh and excited to visit the florist to finalize the flowers arrangements. Finally i was there, so i ask my friend so around how much do you it will cost? She told me if you want full set up it will be around Rm 1k. I was shock, all i needed is the main table? She was like ya… that’s our charges but we can minus out some stuff if you don’t want the decor. So i told her ok minus out the decor, will just take the flowers. She said ok that’s Rm 800. It is still very expensive. We went through the photos and how i want it to set up, but it’s just ridiculous . Before i went to this florist, weeks ago my friend took me to another florist, Sunny Bloom and they quoted me for the wedding arch and main table set up for Rm500. C’mon this is just the main table. How can this make sense? If you are wondering ok maybe the materials they give is different. Girls if you have some sense do your research first and not jump into a florist on the first try. The decorations is the same, Sunny Bloom can also do what they were doing, on top of that they don’t even restrict what flowers you can choose. Ex: if you want lilies it’s more expensive, extra charge for certain flowers and etc. Sunny Bloom allows you to pick and choose what flowers and how you want it to arrange (of course imported flowers always  have extra charge, simply cause they are imported). I was quite satisfied with their pictures and it’s more or less the same as the other florist.

How much did i pay?

Summing it up, all i needed was flowers decoration for the main table. Started from Rm 1k then got a friendly discount to Rm 800 and i seal the deal with Rm200 :) Got exactly what i wanted. If i was to settle for the 1st florist, it felt like i was chop off with blood dripping all the way from the florist back to my house hahaha! you know what i’m trying to say. Sad to say how much popular people can charge while the not so popular charges a more reasonable price. But from Rm 1k to Rm200 for the same thing and on top of that they were helpful as i requested some ivy leaves for decoration and they throw it in for free.  Hey.. i’m not complaining.

What do we learn from this?

  • Do your research.
  • Don’t make a impulse decision at the heat of the moment.
  • Know what you want, be firm.
  • Set a budget.
  • Think it over, do you really need this? or something you get for go.
Don’t just believe what people say or recommend, see it for yourself. Different people different expectations, styles, taste and etc. Ensure it’s what you are looking for. Don’t adjust to what the sales person is persuading you into a beautiful picture. It’s just all sales talk. Of course they will deliver what they promised, but does it really worth that price?

MAC Prep & Prime For The Eyes, Review

Not many people know about prep + prime? The simple term is base. I have written about how MAC Primer help you to camoflage your skin. I have recently bought a MAC Prep + Prime eye base. It works just like the base for your face. It tones back your skin color so when you apply your eye shadow the color pops out more. On top of that the eye shadow will last longer and would not smudge easily.

I use to think it’s does not make any difference but after learning about it now i can appreciate it. Some of you must wonder how does the models or some ppl have their make up on the whole day and does not smudge or get oily and fades off. Simply because of the base. It helps set the make up in it’s place and trust me it really does not fade easily. For those that have a long day or simply going out clubbing at night, don’t have to worry about the sweat or the hot sun will melt away your face.

What i love about it the most is that for a long time i’ve been wondering why everytime i apply light color eye shadow i can’t see the color. All this time i was just like everyone else thinking cause i’m fair so the color doesn’t show much. But i was wrong. Simply  because of your eye area is slightly darker and need to even out the skin tone. Just like our face we might overall look fair but there are areas which is uneven, spots, freckles, veins etc. Just a foundation or eye shadow will not cover those areas. You can just apply it and the spots, freckles, veins, uneven tones will still show through. That is what i believe most people do not realize. So far i’ve been very happy with the results and found a new appreciation for base :P

Tips: How to find the nearest Starbucks using Google Maps

Yo!

I’m currently in Singapore and was looking for the nearest Starbucks. Most of you may not realize there’s an easy way to find the nearest Starbucks or any other kinds of locations near you, so I’m just going to share it here.

First, search for your origin destination. In my case, I searched for the hotel I stayed in:

Second, I click on the hotel location, and I click “Get Directions”.

Then I click “From Here”, and I typed Starbucks in the field and press Go.

Tadah! All the Starbucks nearby. As you noticed, (3) is the nearest one. At the left panel, I clicked on the 3rd Starbucks.

And I get the directions to the Starbucks. If I wanted to walk instead of drive, I can also click on “Walking” to find out the walking directions.

Hope this helps!

Few of my favourite things from Malacca

Satay celup! What can i say, some of you might think it’s lame but i like it. Nothing beats food on a stick in a spicy peanut sauce. My favourites are foo chuk and yul char quay. It’s like a sponge that soak up all the sauce :P

Another one of my favourite choices are prawn and cockles (see hum)

Dip it in for a few minutes and ready to eat. Some people might find it not hygienic but why are you thinking when your eating :P Just eat it!

One of the most popular food in Malacca is the Chicken Rice Ball. Personally i don’t really enjoy it. I guess cause i come from the town of chicken noodle don’t really find the chicken appealing. But i do find the rice ball appealing. Ya everyone gotta try and eat rice in a form of a ball ^_^

One of my must have in Malacca is cendol! Very popular Jonker Dessert at Jonker Street. It’s usually very crowded with people on the weekends and holidays.

Not only it’s popular for it’s dessert you can find the shop is decorated with antiques all around.

typewriter is real.

Old shops usually have a fake upstairs.

They have lot’s of choices for cendol on the menu. Not only they serve cendol, there are 2 other stalls that serve Baba laksa and goreng goreng (fried stuff)

We order one regular cendol and one with durian. Some sort of dry noodle and some goreng goreng.

Cendol is a must have. I just love the Malacca brown sugar, yum! If you don’t know what’s cendol, it’s the green thing that looks like a worm. It’s not as disgusting as you think. Cendol in a whole is crush ice with big red bean, cendol, brown sugar and some coconut on top.

When i look at this table and chairs it’s what they use in a kung fu movie.

What’s on Jonker Street? Chinese clogs. I don’t know why but they are lot’s of them.

You will also come across fancy trishaw around the streets

Hmm….

Caps made of Coke and Pepsi cans.

Not sure what this is but i thought it looks kinda creepy.

This wall is popular for wedding shots. I saw it in a couple of bridal shops.

Along the streets…

The Jetty. It’s behind Holiday Inn hotel. It goes far out and they have pubs, and karaoke in the vicinity.

Time to sign off…

Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice

This is me and peking duck if anyone is wondering how we look like. My sweet and talented cousin surprise us with her specialty in pastry and culinary. Not only that the cupcakes were too good to be eaten, it’s delicious. There’s also a set of Patchi chocolates, hmm…delicious. Flowers are from my aunt. I want to thank my relatives and friends that celebrated our engagement with us.

After peeling off the fondant the sugar that made the decoration, inside was chocolate cake and coffee filling at the bottom. Not too sweet but just nice.

If you are wondering if the fondant can be eaten, yes it can but who would put a whole lum of sugar in their mouth?

For more info you can check out her blog.

One of my favourite pastry is the pineapple tart. For those who visit Malacca quite often and likes pineapple tart then you gotta try this home made recipie. It is best to call and pre order first as they may not have a lot of boxes. They are not located in the tourist area. Just a small wooden house along the road. Most people will order 10 boxes and above. Each box cost Rm12.

There’s definitely more pineapple and the pastry is nice and loose. You gotta try it then you will know the difference.

No more getting lost in Malaysia with Google Maps Get Directions!

When I was working in the States, I never had the fear of getting lost, simply because of Google Maps. I can get directions to anywhere, even remote towns using Google Maps. And whenever I’m lost, and weren’t prepared, I simply have to stop by a wireless hotspot, turn on the laptop, and find out where I am on Google Maps.

Back in Malaysia, I was a little disappointed that Google didn’t extend this service to this country. However, only today, I found out that it’s finally up and running here!

No more getting lost!

Directions:
MPAJ (Pandan Indah) to Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall.
MPAJ (Pandan Indah) to Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall.

Things are not so bad after all…

… if you compare your losses (if any) with this.

Of Cabbages And Condoms…

How is cabbages and condoms related? Cabbages are a common food in Northeast Thailand, in fact they are a staple part of the diet, they are grown in all villages, there are everywhere and everybody uses them. Now, if condoms could be as common and used as often, then some of the population and health problems facing Thailand could be overcome. Let’s take a journey inside the restaurant.

Source Cabbages and Condom (background)

The restaurant is located at Soi 12, Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok a little lane next to a hotel.

There’s a souvenir shop at the restaurant.

Flowers are made of condoms. You will see decorations within the restaurant decorated by condoms.

Rather interesting…

Santa condom and his lovely beach girl condom. You can see everything is made out of condom, creative.

From the entrance onwards i was just snapping away like some freaky tourist. Can’t help myself :P So how does the restaurant actually look like…..

I was so surprise on the set up, it’s so pretty. I pick to sit outside, great ambience. Luckily that day was not too hot and they did a good mosquito fogging too.

I think upstairs is the smoking section.

They serve traditional Thai food with some Western food. Well.. most visitors there are tourist. Didn’t take any pictures on the food cause i order typical tom yum and pineapple fried rice. The food taste pretty good. In Thailand if you eat local food, it’s pretty safe. I enjoy Thai food and pretty much stick to the same type. Pricing is slighty more expensive than outside but still affordable. Example: if a tom yum cost 180 Baht outside it would cost 250 Baht here.

Last but not least, this is Condom man. It says made from contraceptive pills.

When you pay the bill they will give you condoms for souvenir. They gave me & Peking duck a red and a blue one. It’s a place you should pop by whenever you pay a visit to Bangkok.

Don’t forget to be safe!
