One thing I don’t understand, even though it’s billed as the “Toughest Race Ever”, why does the producers made them work at this leg over 40 hours? I mean, I understand it has to be tough, but does tough mean they gotta lose sleep and walk around like zombies? It’s just the 2nd leg and they all look like they’re near fatigue.

Question is, why are the challenges so far apart? Why can’t them be around each other, that way you’ll be able to reduce the cost of production, and at the same time the contestants can race and tackle the challenges with proper rest. Is this Amazing Race Asia, or is it Endurance Race Asia? I mean, I like to see tough challenges, but not when the contestants are like zombies. It kinda takes the fun out of it, if you get what I mean. Fear Factor’s contestants have enough rest all the time, and I still enjoy watching it. Some of the challenges are tough, some are icky, but the contestants are always alert and perky, not sleepy and in the I-just-want-to-finish-this-leg-and-go-to-bed mood. I have to say I don’t enjoy seeing tired people tackling the challenges. All they want is to finish it quickly, and as I have mentioned before, it kinda takes the fun out of the race. If I want to see an endurance race, I’ll tune in to the marathon channel or watch Hidalgo instead.

Anyway, I was at KLCC Starbucks (the one on the 3rd floor) on Tuesday evening (16/9), around 5+ pm, and I thought I saw Henry (of the Henry and Bernie fame) in Starbucks with a Mac. Sorry girls, no photos coz I was on a conference call with Singapore at that time. I wanted to snap a photo, or at least go over and ask if he’s really Henry, but I was stuck in the call, and he left before the con call was done.

Way to go in today’s leg, Henry and Bernie! Keep it up!

F1 2008 Italian GP: Monza Aftermath

This article hits the spot with the following conclusions:

What is indisputable, however, is that Hamilton produces more excitement, more drama, and more controversy than any other performer in F1.

Whatever their driver allegiance, a F1 fan cannot claim to be a F1 driver (sic, should’ve been “fan” here) if he did not enjoy the sight of Hamilton charging through the field in Italy.

I am a self professed Alonso fan, and I hate to say this but after Spa and Monza, all I have for Hamilton is nothing but respect. He has the confidence, the courage, and is rightly the current king of wets. And his driving is nothing less than stunning!

Harajuku Look Alike Contest, Asian Avenue Sunway Pyramid

There was a Harajuku look alike contest final at Sunway Pyramid last Sunday in-conjunction with the Fab Asia Runway Show. Pretty interesting take a look and judge for yourself.

To start off with the show we have 2 cute Asian Avenue Harajuku girls giving out flyers. Aren’t they cute!?

First line up of contestant, isn’t sailormoon the cutest, my favourite (even though she was dressed in pink she’s suppose to be sailormoon)

I don’t know why from Harajuku it became gothic ?!

Scary… but there was definitely effort.

Ooo a pretty girl, too normal against her competitors. You gotta be a freak sweetheart.

4 contestant had a tie score, one more round for the judges with your best pose!

Sailormoon is 3rd, devil is 2nd and the dude is the winner. The other 3 won consolation prizes.

Rather interesting event but it was quite fun. Don’t be scared of the Harajuku people they don’t dress like that all the time. They are all here because of the contest.

Do check out Asian Avenue it is located at Sunway Pyramid 1st floor connecting from old wing to the new wing. There are lot’s of interesting little boutique’s in the area. Don’t be misled by the Harajuku concept cause it’s not. There are lot’s of nice dresses and stylish clothes to be found for all ages. Have fun scouting!

Till next time…

F1 2008 Italian GP: Gonna be exciting after all!

Looks like the Italian GP’s going to be exciting after all, what with the uncertainties and all. Kimi Raikonnen and Lewis Hamilton both will start from 14th and 15th position, while Felipe Massa will start from 6th.

Sebastian Vettel revels in Monza rain and is our youngest ever, first Toro Rosso pole sitter. In fact, it’s the first pole for the Italian team! Go Vettel! We have so much more to see from you!

I guess instead of being the boring unpredictable race as I mentioned in the last post, it’s going to be an exciting one after all!

The race will be on Sunday 12pm GMT (8pm Malaysian time). Watch it online!

Daily Tips: Can my boss eavesdrop on my chats and emails?

Today’s tip is for those who’s wondering if their bosses or some sneaky fellas can eavesdrop on their IM chats and emails online.

A while ago, a friend of mine asked the exact question, because apparently he kept losing his leads to his colleague, leading him to think that somehow his emails were leaked.

The answer is: Yes, they can.

But how do they do it? Basically, within a certain network (applicable to large networks as well, i.e. WAN, Internet) that’s connected to a larger network (Internet), there will be a gateway that acts as a bridge between them.

The point is, there is a part of the network where ALL data passes through, and this is where a packet sniffer can be installed at, if the bosses wishes to. This can apply from a small network in a small company to a large network, even ISPs. Also, packet sniffers are easily available, some are even integrated into network administration and analyzer tools, with software(s) like Ethereal (rebranded as wireshark) as a good example. You may argue that there’s just too much data to capture and monitor, and yes, you’re right, but these softwares allow the administrator (or anyone with access) to set filters; they can capture data packets containing any words or phrases that they wish. From there on, if they wish, they can set it to capture packets from any particular IP.

(click for larger image)

In addition, IMs are usually not encrypted, passing through the network in clear text. Clear text here means, whatever that you type and send in IM, is sent as it is, with no encryption whatsoever. The well known ones, Yahoo, MSN, Gtalk, all passes the data in clear text. As for emails, they’re also passed in clear text if you don’t have any third party encryption tools in place. For online banking and credit card transactions, they are mostly done through https, so the information are encrypted from your browser and the intended party. What this means is, if there is anyone looking at your online banking and credit card transaction data packets, they see gibberish.

However, even with https, it’s not exactly fully secure, a hacker with enough time and processing power in his hands can decrypt it. In the encryption world, there usually is no such thing as fully-secure-encryption technology, any encryption can be decrypted, it’s just a matter of how long it takes to decrypt it. If it’s considerably tough to decrypt, taking a certain number of processing power not available to civilians, and a certain number of years, then it’s considered “secure” and can be made available for public usage.

So, knowing all this now, if you don’t wish your bosses to sneak up on your with transcripts of your chats, do NOT discuss anything over the IM or emails about anything that you don’t wish to be reminded you said. If something could get you in trouble, legally or otherwise, do NOT discuss it over IM or email if you don’t want it to be used against you in the future.

In the next installment of this topic, I will share with you some applications I’ve used before to safeguard my privacy.. so stay tuned!

Good luck!

Johnny Depp, Cry Baby

I was flipping through the channels the other day and i saw Cry Baby was showing on HBO. I can’t believe it!. I remember watching this show when i was like 11 or 12 yrs old. That was when I first know who is Johnny Depp.

Cry Baby

Cry-Baby (1990) is a musical film directed by John Waters. It stars Johnny Depp as 1950s teen rebel “Cry-Baby” Wade Walker, and also features an expansive cast that includes Iggy Pop, Traci Lords, Ricki Lake, David Nelson, Susan Tyrrell and Patty Hearst. This film did not achieve high audience numbers in its initial release but has subsequently become a cult movie and spawned a hit Broadway musical that was nominated for some Tony Awards.

Source: Wikipedia

I remember watching re-runs of Cry Baby after years had passed. I like musical shows and this was definitely one good show to watch. Especially the scene when he was thrown in jail and they did a tear tattoo beneath his left eye.

Like all Waters movies, it’s about a battle between the good, disreputable people and the bad, conventional ones-in this case, a group of juvenile delinquents (called “drapes”), whose leader is a handsome rock and roller known as Cry-Baby (Johnny Depp), versus “the squares,” represented by just about everybody else in town. Cry-Baby, a sensitive sort (he lost both his parents to the electric chair), falls in love with a square girl, Allison (Amy Locane), and the film devotes itself to exploring the question, Can their forbidden love survive in a world that just doesn’t understand? Unfortunately, almost everything in the movie feels flat and enervated. It’s indifferently, mechanically paced; the musical numbers are ineptly staged; and Depp isn’t a very exciting presence. Waters seems to be going through the motions: “Cry-Baby” is all attitude, a rote recitation of mildly naughty jokes he’s made before. Maybe cute people don’t inspire him. The bizarre supporting cast includes Polly Bergen, former porn queen Traci Lords, Kim McGuire (as a spectacularly ugly girl called Hatchet-Face), Susan Tyrrell, Ricki Lake, Iggy Pop, Troy Donahue, Joey Heatherton, Joe Dallesandro, David Nelson, and celebrity ex-con Patty Hearst. -Terrence Rafferty

Johnny Depp  super cute!

King Cry Baby – Johnny Depp

[MEDIA=4]

If you are wondering is it Johnny Depp that is singing…..nop it’s not. It is sang by James Intveld. James Intveld was hired by director John Waters to sing for Johnny Depp. Not that Johnny Depp can’t sing. He actually can sing and he plays the guitar as well. He sang in Sweeney Todd. That was all him. What can i say he’s always been on the artistic side ;)

Funny they kinda look alike.

Cry baby cry, till next time…

F1 2008 Italian GP: Uncertainties

We are going into the Italian GP with uncertainties. McLaren has filed an appeal with FIA’s court of appeal, but it may only be heard after the Italian GP.

This means that even after the race, we still wouldn’t know who’s leading the driver’s championship. Nice going, FIA.

Monza seems like it’s going to be boring ol’ Monza, with no rain and not much overtaking. Boo hoo.

In other news, there’s still a lot of unknown about Alonso’s future, whether he’ll be staying in Renault, or whether he’ll be going to Honda. Everybody’s keeping mum. Wherever he goes, I just have one request, pretty please, with sugar on top, give him a better car.

The Amazing Race Asia Season 3 begins!

Yes! After a long wait, the Amazing Race Asia will premiere tonight!

We’ve been a fan of the Amazing Race Asia series, since its first season itself. It’s fun and exciting, and sometimes we try to imagine ourselves being in the race itself :P . Anyway, it seems like they’re getting a number of couples who are likely to quarrel on TV this season; I guess it helps with the ratings whenever someone quarrels or when there’s tension between partners… people will start talking about it in the office and everyone will tune in to see what happens…

This season the producers have also branded it as “The Toughest Race Ever”. IMHO it’s a good thing, I think the past seasons of Amazing Race Asia has been pretty easy on the contestants, the challenges are much too simple compared to the ones in the parent franchise: The Amazing Race.

It’ll be on AXN (Astro) tonight at 9pm Malaysia time, and for those who can’t make it during that time, here’s the schedule of the reruns.

Woot!

$2000 from Trading, $68000 from Blogging

It’s things like this that makes you wonder. A pretty well known stock trading blogger, in the month of August, made a tidy sum of $2000 from stock trading, and an omgwtf sum of $68000 from blogging.

Certainly someone we can all learn from.
