How could i forget, my craziness for ice skating. I started skating when i was 14, and i was obsessed with it. It all started with 1 of my girlfriend decided that we should try out ice skating one day. So we head out to Central Park over the weekend. Found, Woolman Rink.

That was the first time i tried ice skating. After that i was hooked!. Not just me, but me and my 2 best friends were hooked too. I guess i was the extreme one. We started going every weekends to every weekday. At some point we were so ridiculous. When Woolman Rink was close for functions, and we couldn’t skate. We would go crazy and find other rinks to skate. Not too far from Central Park, we head on to…. Rockerfeller Centre.

The rink there was not as big as Woolman Rink but we needed our fixed. Rockerfeller rink is cater more for tourist attraction. Usualy there’s not many people there. All of us started with the ugly rental skates that was provided by the rinks, sorry no pics. I would like to show you how ugly it was. Can’t complaint i was only 14 and it does the job. When i see people wearing those cool hockey skates, i just had to have them. So….

Since i’m size 4, i am able to buy kids size which cost me only 50 bucks at that time . My girlfriends are not so lucky they had bigger size so they have to buy the adult size which is about $90-$100.

All this while you must be thinking i was obsess with figure skating…. nop i’m not. I’m obsess with ice skating freestyle. What is it ? Basically it’s dancing hip hop or freestyle on ice. Yes you can actually do that.  Figure skating is on the contemporary side. Hockey skates, dances freestyle. It’s kind hard to describe how it actually looks like. But if you understand hip hop. Most moves are the same but you just do it on skates. It is a little difficult but it’s challenging. That is why i was obsessed with it, cause if you want ot be good, you have to practice all the time. And practice makes perfect . I was 1 of the girls that was pretty good. Freestyle skating are mostly for guys. That caught a lot of attention from people…. ok mostly guys. I was even invited to join the Rink Rats. They were these cool people that hang at the back of the rink and does freestyle. I didn’t accept their invitation i was with the Asian group. We became friends and they taught me a lot of stuff. We meet up at the rink and practice all the time. Skated for 4 years, till i flew back to Asia.
